HD COOLANT HG 40

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

HD Coolant HG 40 is a concentrated engine coolant formulated around ethylene glycol, fortified with a corrosion inhibitor package featuring organic acid salts and silicates. This coolant is categorized as a silicated Organic Acid Technology (OAT) product, devoid of nitrites, amines, phosphates, and borates. Prior to use, it must be mixed with high-quality water, with an optimal dilution ratio of 1:1 for top-tier protection.

The development of HD Coolant HG 40 aimed to safeguard engines found in cars, trucks, and buses, whether constructed with ferrous or aluminum components, from the perils of freezing, overheating, and corrosion. It boasts a specialized blend of inhibitors meticulously engineered to offer superior corrosion protection to vital engine components, including radiators, cylinder blocks/heads, water pumps, and heater cores.

HD Coolant HG 40 has been specifically designed for use within the cooling systems of both gasoline and diesel engines, spanning various applications such as trucks, buses, off-road machinery, stationary engines, and marine vessels. It’s essential to exercise caution when using coolant filters pre-treated with dichromates in heavy-duty diesel equipment, as these substances can lead to the formation of a brownish, mud-like residue. Notably, HD Coolant HG 40 is entirely compatible with standard hoses, gaskets, clamps, and fittings, ensuring a safe and reliable performance.

APPLICATIONS

HD Coolant HG 40 meets the requirements of ASTM D3306, D4985 and BS 6580:2010 standards.

PERFORMANCE FEATURES

Features of HD Coolant HG 40 include:

  • Mitigates corrosion across all engine cooling system metals.
  • Prevents the buildup of scale deposits.
  • Furnishes protection against freezing and overheating.
  • Restricts the formation of foam that can lead to water pump cavitation.
  • Prolongs the interval between necessary coolant replacements.
  • Reduces the quantity of spent coolant requiring disposal.
  • Preserves cooling systems in a state akin to their original condition, ensuring peak efficiency.
  • Enhances fuel efficiency by maintaining the engine at its optimal operating temperature.

Anti-freeze Protection (50% dilution):             Below -37oC

Anti-boil Protection (50% dilution):                 Above 129oC

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

Before treatment, pre-clean the cooling system by:

Drain the existing coolant and chemically clean the system to remove any rust, dirt, oil and built-up residue. Use a radiator cleaner to clean the system effectively and thoroughly.

Initial Dosage:

Dilute HD Coolant HG 40 to a 50% solution with good clean water and add to the cooling system. In most cases tap water is suitable. Diluent water should have the following characteristics:

Water Hardness               0 – 3.6 mmol/L Chloride Content: Max 100 ppm Sulfate content:       Max 100 ppm

Preventative Maintenance:

Never top up with water as this will dilute the coolant. Always top up with HD Coolant HG 40 diluted to 50%.

Light commercial and passenger vehicles: Service interval of the HD Coolant HG 40 is 5 years or 250,000 km, whichever comes first.

Heavy Duty Diesels: Service interval of the HD Coolant HG 40 is 5 years or 1,000,000 kms, whichever comes first.

STORAGE STABILITY

HD Coolant HG 40 has a shelf life of at least three years when stored in the original closed air-tight container at temperatures below 30°C.  Do not use galvanized containers for storage as they may corrode.

HANDLING

The usual precautions for handling chemicals together with the information and advice contained in the Safety Data Sheet should be observed. Avoid contact with skin.

COMPATIBILITY

Most coolant blends are based on carefully balanced mixtures of various corrosion inhibitors. Mixing of coolants with different inhibitor packages can lead to loss of corrosion protection. HD Coolant HG 40 should therefore not be mixed with silicate free, OAT based or any other coolants.
