GEAR OILS 80W90 AND 85W140

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Gear Oils 80W90 and 85W140 are superior API GL-5 Gear Oils designed to provide:

  • Outstanding Thermal Stability
  • Significantly Extended Oil Seal Lifespan
  • Dramatically Enhanced Durability of Gear Surfaces
  • Exceptional Corrosion Protection for Yellow Metals in both moist and arid conditions.

Gear Oils 80W90 and 85W140 are specifically recommended for use in a wide range of applications, including but not limited to car, truck, and tractor differentials, as well as other final drives, transfer and steering gearboxes, and manual transmissions. These oils are meticulously crafted using advanced paraffinic base oils with exceptional resistance to oxidation, combined with top-tier extreme pressure (EP) additives. This meticulous formulation ensures the extended longevity of transmission drive lines.

BENEFITS

Gear Oils 80W90 and 85W140 are designed to prevent temperature-related deterioration of transmission synchronizers, which can otherwise result in costly transmission failures. They also ensure consistent oil flow to gears and bearings by preventing blockages in oil passageways or filters. This protection against lubricant failure is crucial for maintaining the longevity of transmissions, a factor acknowledged by OEMs in their design considerations.

These oils excel in safeguarding gear sets against pitting fatigue, a factor that can limit their lifespan. Extensive field tests, laboratory spalling evaluations, and power divider snap tests have all validated the ability of Gear Oils 80W90 and 85W140 to provide lasting durability to gear sets.

Furthermore, these oils offer effective corrosion protection to copper alloys, both in wet and dry conditions. Unlike some other commercially available EP additives, there are no interactions that cause corrosion between these oils and the special EP additives they contain.

Additionally, the high film strength properties of these lubricants contribute to reducing transmission drive line noise in various conditions, including low-speed high-torque, high-speed low-torque, and shock loading scenarios. Gear Oils 80W90 and 85W140 also prevent the formation of foam in the lubricant, ensuring consistent performance.

CHARACTERISTICS

Gear Oils 80W90 and 85W140 provide protection against the formation of sludge, oxidation and carbonaceous deposit build-up and excessive viscosity increases, thereby ensuring long service life of transmission components. Thermal stresses on Gear Oils in modern high performance transmissions have increased due to the following:

  • Change in vehicle aerodynamics
  • Wider use of drive-line retarders
  • Increased “Power Density” for transmission and rear axles
  • Extended slow speeds and high loads
  • Higher ambient temperatures
  • Higher horse-power
  • Extended warranties/reduced maintenance etc.

Excessive heat build up can occur (up to 180oC), resulting in oil degradation and increased friction and wear.

SPECIFICATIONS

Gear Oils 80W90 and 85W140 meet or exceed the following demanding performance requirements:

API:          GL-5

Military specification:       MIL-L-2105D.

Always consult your vehicle owner’s manual for the manufacturer’s lubricant recommendations.
